Depression & Anxiety
HOW CAN HYPNOTHERAPY HELP?
When a person is experiencing depression or anxiety, it can sometimes seem like there is no way out. Loved ones, with all of the best intentions may say things such as, ‘you just need to think positively’ or ‘it’s not worth worrying about it’.
Whilst these statements might be true, it can be difficult to rationalise or think clearly when in that downward spiral. Simply ‘thinking yourself out of it’ may not be possible. This is where the benefits of hypnosis come in.
During a session of hypnotherapy, you will gain an understanding of the problem on a conscious level through counselling. Your therapist will discuss with you how the problem presents itself, the impact that it has on your life and how you would prefer to be feeling as well what you would prefer to be focusing on.
This information will then be utilised under hypnosis to help you create new possibilities for your life. The subconscious will be engaged in the process so as to allow for the resolution and healing of any past traumas, hurt, grief, or other underlying reasons as to why you might be feeling stuck.
Hypnosis adds a unique layer to therapy by not only discussing the problem on a conscious level, but addressing the underlying causes at a deeper subconscious level so as the mind can begin to process and create real and positive change.

Whilst it is normal to feel sad or low, sometimes these feelings are prolonged and can go on for weeks, months or years, with no end in sight and for no apparent reason. It is then that we recognise what may be the signs of depression.
Depression is acondition that affects mental and physical wellbeing. Signs and symptoms can range from:
- A persistent low mood
- Feelings of helplessness or hopelessness
- Loss of interest in usual activities
- A change in sleeping habits (sleeping too much or too little)
- A change in eating habits or loss of appetite
- Having a lack of energy
- Finding it hard to concentrate
and many more.
When a person is depressed they may have thoughts of hurting themselves or of ending their life. If you or someone you know are having such thoughts please contact Lifeline (ph. no. 13 11 14) or your GP. If you require immediate assistance, dial 000.
Signs and symptoms of depression or anxiety will range from person to person, and it is not uncommon that a person may be suffering from elements of both of these conditions. The important thing to remember is that depression and anxiety can be treated and managed, and you are not alone. At South Eastern Hypnotherapy & Counselling, we believe that no two people are the same and should therefore not be treated the same.
Whilst it is normal to feel stressed or worried in response to circumstances in life, these feelings will usually subside when the stressful situation has been removed. Anxiety is different in that even when the stressful situation is removed, the feeling persists. This feeling can go on for weeks, months or years with no end in sight and for no apparent reason.
We all feel anxious from time to time, but for a person experiencing anxiety, these feelings cannot be easily controlled. It is then that we recognise what may be the signs of anxiety.
Anxiety is a condition that makes coping with life very difficult for the person experiencing it, and it can have serious mental and physical health consequences. There are many different types of anxiety ranging from:
- Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)
- Specific phobias
- Panic Disorder or panic attacks
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
